Since my website has been down, I haven’t been able to update you guys on some great offers. I’m guessing most of you are already aware of this offer, but I do know some of you (mostly people I know personally) only read this blog for your travel related news.
A couple weeks ago, The Points Guy discovered a link that will allow you to get the Citi American Airlines Executive card with 100,000 Aadvantage miles and a $200 statement credit.

I’m not sure if that’s specifically for American Airlines purchases or any purchases.) I just received my first statement for this account and was credited $200 even though I didn’t have an American Airlines purchases. - The annual fee for this card is $450. However, with the $200 statement credit, the annual fee is essentially only $250.

The two biggest hangups for most people:
The annual fee
Paying $450 for an annual fee hurts, but the math does make sense.
After the statement credit, you’ll pay $250. In return, you’ll be getting 100,000 American Airlines Aadvantage miles. That could be used for two off-peak flights to Japan. It could be used for 2.5 off-peak flights to Europe. You could get three off-peak flights to Central America. Is business class more your style? How about a business class flight to Europe?
Yep, 100,000 miles is really valuable.
The $10,000 minimum spend
You have two options here. You can throw up your hands and say, “I could never spend that much,” or you could creatively explore ways to manufacture $10,000 worth of spending.
You could buy Vanilla Reload Cards from CVS. You’d pay a total of $79 in fees, but you could get $10,000 worth of the cards over a three month period.
You could buy Prepaid Visa or MasterCard gift cards, and then use that to buy a Money Order at Walmart. Most $500 cards come with a $5.95 fee plus a .70 fee to get a money order. That would equal a total of $133 in fees to spend the money using this system.
You could transfer $1,000 per month using Amazon Payments to spend $3,000 worth of your minimum spend.
Creativity and diversity is the key here. I wouldn’t go into one store and buy $10,000 worth of gift cards, but by combining the methods I just introduced, with a little time and effort you could reach the minimum spend.
